Medication
Do you take medication? Have you been prescribed medication? Would you take medication if a doctor prescribed it?

An article about medication, written by Dr. James Le Fanu in the Daily Telegraph on Monday 19th November 2012, summarises the current situation and provides a highly thought-provoking insight into the dangers of medication. Please take the trouble to read every word of it - it could have a far-reaching effect on your health and well-being.

This is the first small step towards my plan to fill these pages with my own observations and experience of matters affecting health and fitness. The subjects I have in mind include exercise, self-diagnosis, drugs, pain, injuries, the power of the mind, GPs, beliefs and the NHS.
Exercise

We all know that regular walking is a health-enhancing activity (as long as you don't fall and break a leg!). However, the exercise of walking occurs while joints and muscles are working, that is, they are under stress.

I think there is great value in flexing joints and stretching muscles while they are relaxed.
With a view to keeping my joints supple and my muscles toned, I have devised a series of short daily exercises which take only two or three minutes, immediately after waking every morning. I would commend you to do something similar, based on your own analysis of your needs and capabilities. The underlying principle is to do nothing which causes pain. After a hernia operation several years ago, I asked the surgeon what activities I should undertake. He said "Do whatever you like but, if it hurts, don't do it!"

I have detailed the exercises I have devised to fit my needs and abilities in a document which you can download by clicking here. You might like to use it as a guide to creating your own regime. But remember, if it hurts, don't do it! I have found these relaxed exercises very helpful in coping with muscle aches and knee pain.
